October 2nd Farm News
“I'm so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.”
― L.M. Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables
The weeks continue to fly by - especially with these shorter days! I cannot believe that this will be our 18th summer share of this season. It is always fun to compare shares from year to year. This year, we've had a glorious tomato season. Last year, the last box that had tomatoes was box #16. We made it to 18 this year! It is time to clean up the hoophouse - which means taking down our somewhat elaborate trellising systems and removing the tomato plants. We've already planted our fall greens - baby kale, salad mix, and spinach - in the open beds of the hoophouse. If we don't have too harsh of a winter, we will hopefully be harvesting the kale and spinach until springtime.
Please RSVP to our fall farm party by the end of this week. We will be taking a break from the farmers' market and the blog post next week - the whole family is roadtripping to Pittsburgh for a family wedding. We will still send out the Sunday e-mail with our prediction for share #19.
