August 7th Farm News

“The first week of August hangs at the very top of summer, the top of the live-long year, like the highest seat of a Ferris wheel when it pauses in its turning. The weeks that come before are only a climb from balmy spring, & those that follow a drop to the chill of autumn, but the first week of August is motionless, & hot. It is curiously silent, too, with blank white dawns & glaring noons, & sunsets smeared with too much color.”
―Natalie Babbitt, Tuck Everlasting

With August comes our 10th summer CSA share - we have reached the halfway point our the summer CSA season! The farm continues to grow & change before our eyes.

The melons are ripening!  Our winter squash & pumpkins are finally taking off. Fall crops, like brussels sprouts & leeks look beautiful. We have more basil than we know what to do with! (CSA members - u-pick???)

The August skies have been beautiful. The above pictures were taken this past week after a thunderstorm - the left picture of the western sky, & the right picture of the eastern sky.
