August 28th Farm News
"What I say is that, if a man really likes potatoes, he must be a pretty decent sort of fellow." A.A. Milne
Potato harvest is one of my favorite moments of the season. Along with the other root vegetables, like carrots & beets, the bounty lies beneath the soil. We have estimates for what our yields will be, but the actual yield is always a surprise. We've been pleasantly surprised by our carrot & russet potato yields!
Another highlight of this year's growing season has been our sweet peppers. With the glorious hot weather we were having, the peppers ripened beautifully.
The wet weather has been a struggle. It is difficult to keep up with cultivation, and the weeds are quickly getting ahead of us. Our beautiful melon crop is suffering with the excess rain, and we see disease in some of our brassica crops. Each season has its beauty and struggles!
Enjoy this last week of August!
